The Sun! The Sun!!

Hooks

FINALLY getting some dry weather.  I’m getting outside to tackle yard work that has been neglected because of all the rain. Can’t sell the house with an ugly yard, right? Plus I just love playing in the dirt gardening.  What are you up to today?  Let me know!

Until next time, stay inspired and be crafty!

Vintage Crochet – Gloves

crochetgloveGloves used to be a fashion staple and not just for keeping your hands warm.  Pretty much any time you left the house, a woman wore gloves.  Special occasions called for more formal gloves.  Even when I was little my mom wore dress gloves to church.

I personally love dressy gloves. I’d love to have a pair of satin elbow length gloves…I’d only need some fancy occasions to wear them!  I wish gloves would come back into style.  I fear that the glamour of every day fashion is long gone though, replaced by yoga pants and flip flops.

These crochet gloves are so simple and elegant, I think I’ll need to find the time to make some…and wear them just because I can.

What vintage fashion would you like to see return?

Throwback Thursday – My Market Bag

I have to be honest: I don’t make a lot of stuff for myself. I’m usually so busy making for others. This weeks Throwback Thursday post is one of my favorite projects, and one of the few things I made for myself…a ‪Market Bag.
bag3pA few years ago I had made a lot of Christmas gifts and had quite a bit of yarn leftovers. They sat in my stash waiting to be used. That summer my family took a trip to a local flea market and one of the things I noticed was that many of the sellers there had tyvek shopping bags for sale. There were a few sizes f

rom the standard grocery size to large bags with wheels. My thought is usually “why would I buy something like that when I could make it myself?” But do I? Most of the time, no, and I end up buying one anyway.
bag1pBut this time I didn’t and when we got back home, I pulled out all those yarn leftovers from my stash and went to work. A few days later it was finished…and I loved how it came out. The colors worked great together and there was plenty of yarn to make a good, heavy duty bag. No problem carrying canned goods or veggies and nothing is going to fall through it.

Laying down this bag measures about 10 inches (26 cm) across on the bottom and
bag2pabout 21 inches (53 1/2 cm) across the top. It is about 11 inches (28 cm) deep and the handles measure about 7 inches (18 cm) wide. It is just a basic single crochet and I used double yarn throughout.

This was a great project for using leftover yarn, and a useful, heavy bag for all those goodies you get at the farmers markets! I still use it all the time and it remains one of my favorite project.

Do you have a favorite item you made for yourself? I’d love to hear about it! Share about it in the comments or link to the post on your blog!

Monday Inspiration: Fringe

crochetfringehaltertop
This halter is from http://www.2020ave.com/

Have you noticed that fringe is making a comeback?  They say everything old is new again and it is pretty much true.  I only wish that those low riding jeans would go away and never return.  But I digress…  Fringe is returning all sorts of things in the fashion world, and crochet and fringe go together so well!

I remember a poncho my mom crocheted for me when I was in elementary school.  I loved that poncho and my favorite part was the fringe.

It is still pretty trendy to have shawls, scarves, ponchos etc. without fringe, they may be pushed to the back of the closet soon as fringe comes front and center! What is your favorite fringed item in your wardrobe?

Monday Inspiration: Thread Crochet

christeninggownThere is some crochet that you look at and you just know that a lot of time and love went into it.  This is one of them.  This beautiful christening gown and bonnet is made by Carol Booth using #30 6-cord vintage Cartier-Bresson thread and a #10 steel hook…without a pattern!  It was posted on the Doris Chan Crochet blog.  The Swarvoski crystal beads just send it over the top.   If this won second place, I can just imagine that first place was incredible.

I really enjoy thread crochet even though it is tiny intricate work.  It is very rewarding when you finish!
