Washing Your Crochet Accessories

“Can I just toss this into the washer?”

Washing.jpg

I get this question A LOT. And it’s a GREAT question. Your handmade crochet and knit accessories are special to you, and caring for them properly is important so they look great for a long time.

First, it is not necessary to wash your crochet or knits every time you use/wear them. Frequent washing can actually cause fiber damage and fading. Unless they are soiled, simply air them out overnight.

While many yarns today are created to be machine washable/dryable, it is still my recommendation to hand wash your handmade crochet and knit accessories. Do this by gently moving them by hand (instead of rubbing) in a bucket or tub of, taking care to be especially gentle with pom poms. Roll them inside a towel, then squeeze the water out taking care not to wring, and lay items flat to dry on towels or drying screens taking the time to gently shape your items if needed. They should be completely dry (12-24 hours). Fluff as needed and they are ready to go!

When properly cared for, they’ll look great for a long time to come!

Crochet Inspirations – Vintage Sweater

Isn’t it lovely?

It’s not crochet, but this is one of my favorite vintage/historical yarnworks.  This wool sweater is from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and is ca. 1895. The mutton sleeves are just wonderful!  I would wear this today, wouldn’t you?  One day I am going to make something like it…one day.  But until then, it will be one of my favorite inspiration pieces.  If you have a favorite inspiration piece, or if you have made a project based on an inspiration piece, I’d love to hear about it!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

…because I’m working on Christmas creations!

I’m working on putting together my 2016 Christmas snow flake ornament set, as well as a couple other ornament sets.  I’m also working on this years garland design.  Everything will be available to order starting November 1!

Ready for fall?

IMG_20160814_093824I am!  This beaded crochet necklace I was working on has some great fall colors – black, gold, red and brown seed beads on black thread.  I think reds and golds are my favorite fall colors.  This necklace is finished and ready to sell, and will soon be listed in my Etsy shop.  I think it turned out great and the twists in the chain really set it off.  What are your favorite fall colors?

I love new projects!!

This morning I am sitting down relaxing, ready to start another crochet project. As always, so many ideas, so little crochet time…and coffee.  But I’ll manage.  *smile* Hope your week is going well!
